The Five day spectacular Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2017 begins in Mumbai on Wednesday, February 1st, 2017.
The Day 1 first show was by five budding designers who showcased a creatively exuberant collection at the Reliance Jio Garden (see here). The second show was of a well established Delhi based designer URVASHI KAUR, who brought the Indian earthy tones to the runway. She showcased her line, VAASA in which she used delicate chikankari work with a blend of leheriya and shibori techniques. The collection is inspired from her childhood travel experiences to remote parts of India.
Talking about the collection, Urvashi Kaur said, “My collection is centered around the traveller and spiritual seeker and his metaphorical journey. This journey is titled Vaasa and is an ongoing theme within my work and has continued to inspire me through various collections.” (Source: IANS)
The Collection included exuberant ensembles for both men and women. She showcased 25 ensembles and the highlight was intricate detailing, shibori, distinct leheriya dyeing and hand block printing with the instances of chikankari.
The collection started with a colour palette that is inspired from the earth. Starting off with a dusty fawn that faded into a faint blush to darker hues of indigo and olive.
Kaur used time worn and handwoven textiles like khadi, simple cotton and traditional Ajrakhs and kota doriya coupled with the pale lustre of cotton silks reflecting the transience of cultures and civilisations.
SILHOUETTES included tailored shirts, skirts, structured jumpsuits and panelled separates. Layering played a key role in the collection. Flowy, loose and layered silhouettes can be seen throughout.
Its an Indian version of modern casual jumpsuit that is super comfy and folded from bottom. The jumpsuit is layered up with a long printed jacket. The plunging neckline and baggy pockets in the front gave a nice boho look. Accessorised with one long neck piece and low bun. You can see the essence of a traveller very clearly.
The indigo flared kurta with leaves printed all over to add the nature into the collection apart from the dusty and earthiness. This kurta is flowy and its paired up with sheer printed palazzo pants. Finished up with a nude footwear with no accessories. Simple and sober.
A NEW DRAPE OF SAREE
Elegance comes with saree and this drape has a rural feel to it because its paired up with a mauvish shirt-style kurta.
